Privacy Policy

OccupationEx is a free career exploration game for high school and early college students. It has no ads, and we never sell your information. This page explains, in plain language, what the game saves and why.
What we collect
| Information | Why | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Nickname and emoji avatar | To show your player on screen and on your class board | You, and (if you join a class) signed-in classmates and teachers who have your class code |
| Email address and password (only if you make an account) | To sign you in and save your progress across devices. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We never see your password. | Only you |
| Google sign-in (optional) | If you choose “Sign in with Google,” Google shares your email and account ID with the game so you can sign in | Only you |
| Game progress: careers, lessons, shifts, coins, items, settings | So you can keep playing where you left off | Only you |
| Class board entry: nickname, avatar, XP, scores, streaks, class code, and your “could you see yourself here?” answers | Class standings and your teacher’s class overview | Only you, plus signed-in classmates and teachers who have your class code. There is no public leaderboard. |
| Progress codes (only if you make one) | So a teacher can see your progress when you play without an account | Only the people you choose to send the code to. Codes aren’t stored on our servers. |
| Problem reports and feedback you choose to send | To fix mistakes in the game. For guests, feedback stays on the device. | Only the game’s owner (and a teacher using the same device for guests) |
What we don’t collect
- No ads, no ad tracking, and no selling or renting of information.
- We don’t ask for your real full name, address, phone number, school name, birthday, or location.
- We don’t use advertising trackers or anything that follows you across other websites or apps.
- We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly tool. It records things like which pages are viewed, the type of device and browser, the country, and which site linked here. It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t identify you, and doesn’t track you across sites.
Please use a nickname instead of your full real name.
Playing as a guest
You can play without an account. Guest progress is saved only in your browser on that device and is not sent to our servers. Clearing your browser’s site data erases it.
Services the game uses
- Google Firebase (hosting, sign-in, and the database that stores accounts, progress, and leaderboards).
- Google Fonts for the game’s lettering.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits, without cookies or personal identifiers.
- Live data for some careers: weather from Open-Meteo, flight positions from the OpenSky Network, and space station location from Where the ISS At. The game only asks these services for public data. It does not send them your account details. Stock prices in the Stock Market are simulated inside the game, so no stock data service is used.
When your browser connects to any website, that site can see basic technical details such as your IP address. Each service above has its own privacy policy.
Students and kids under 13
OccupationEx is made for high school and early college students. Students under 13 should only play with a parent’s or teacher’s permission. Teachers using it in class can have students play as guests or use nicknames only. If you believe a child under 13 created an account without permission, email nklug2008@icloud.com and we’ll delete it.
For schools and teachers
- Student information is used only to run the game. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared except with the service providers listed above.
- Students can play as guests with no account. Guest progress stays on the device, and teachers can collect progress with progress codes instead.
- If students make accounts, have them use nicknames and the class code you give them. Only signed-in players with that code can see the class board.
- A school can ask us to delete all accounts for its students at any time by emailing nklug2008@icloud.com.
- If your school or district needs a student data privacy agreement, email us and we’ll work with you on one.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your account data until you delete it. To delete your account, your progress, and your leaderboard entry, open the game and go to ⚙️ Settings → 🔒 Privacy → Delete my account. This can’t be undone. If you can’t sign in, email nklug2008@icloud.com and we’ll delete it for you.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with Google Firebase. Database rules limit what each player can read and change. No system is perfectly secure, so please don’t put personal details in your nickname or feedback.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
Questions, or want your data deleted? Email nklug2008@icloud.com. You can also use ⚙️ Settings → Send feedback in the game.
